We would prefer to not have to post any rules. Just "be a good astronomer" should take care of it for most people. However, for the benefit new people and guests, and for those who come from places where they do things differently, please read our simple rules. First timers will enjoy this article on Observing Etiquette.

The Billy Dodd Memorial Observing Field is a place for serious astronomers to enjoy their hobby in the sprit in which the field was built. There is no club, no dues, and no politics - just friends who wish to observe together and have a great time enjoying their hobby! Please take care of it like it is your front yard. It is my front yard, so please be respectful!

The field is supported by our donation box. Please donate enough so we can continue to mow the grass, pay the electric bill, and have a little left over to take care of maintenance. For over 20 years the suggested amount has been $5 per person per night. Thank you!

Maintenance: Except for the mowing there are no paid employees to take care of things. The field is to be maintained by those who wish to use it.

RVs are allowed and encouraged. They must use one of the nine 30 amp outlets. Any vehicle with an air-conditioner is considered to be an RV. RVs may not plug into the other field electrical outlets - NO exceptions at any time! Heavy users of electricity, such as heaters and air-conditioners, are expected to donate a little extra to cover its cost. RVs must have windows blocked so no interior light escapes.

Dark-out rules apply at all times. No bright lights anywhere, dusk to dawn. Bright lights include computer screens, video cameras, and basically any light that would interfere with your neighbor's dark adaption. Laptop and video screens must be darked out and shielded so no one can see them but you. While many like wearing the new red LED head lamps, those around you find them to be a pain-in-the-eye. Be aware of the fact that your headlamp shines into other observers eyes, so turn them off when others are around.

Please - no pets except on a leash. Owners are responsible for cleaning up after their pets, and keeping them quiet!

Quiet time is every morning until noon. This includes pets and children. Please be considerate of those who stay up observing till dawn!

Please do not drive between the buildings and the fence. The septic tank and drain field are located in these areas.

No sleeping in the clubhouse. It makes it too inconvenient for other observers to use the refrigerator, microwave, and rest rooms.

If you play music or a radio, set the volume so that no one can hear it but you. Everyone will thank you.

Please bag your trash and take it with you when you leave. No trash facilities are available on site. Please remember to remove everything from the refrigerator when you leave. Thank You!

Please arrive and set up before the end of twilight. Be careful when driving on the telescope fields after dark for safety reasons. Use parking lights only. Make sure that you know where you are and where you are going. You are responsible for any damage you cause to people, equipment, or the site.

If you plan to leave the site before dawn, park with your car headed away from the observing field. Parking lights only until reaching the end of the road. There are operating observatories all along the road.

Please, do not flush paper towels down the toilets! They clog easily. Do not put garbage in the sinks.

AC POWER. AC Power at night is restricted to telescope and telescope related equipment only. No electric heaters, refrigerators, coffee pots, microwaves, or any other high current use appliances.

WARNING! Anyone may be banned from the site for inappropriate behavior.

LIABILITY. The property owners accept NO responsibility or liability for damage, loss or injury to you or your equipment. You use the field at your own risk.
