City of Rocks State Park

Dedicated to dark skies

From the state park's brochure:

"The City of Rocks State Park is a geological wonder that rests beneath some of the darkest night skies in the country where the stars truly "light-up" the night sky, Born some 33 million years ago from a volcanic eruption 1000 times greater than Mount St. Helens, mother nature has slowly chiseled her into the rock 'city' you see today.

Open all year, we offer full service bath and shower facilities, 51 developed campsites, 10 electric and water sites, weekly educational programs, a 3-mile hiking and bike trail, botanical garden, and our new "star observatory" for the night sky viewing programs of the galaxy and its wonders."

The State Park is 7 miles from us. They have astronomy programs and are always happy to have volunteers to help out. Feel like a little public outreach?
